I have to say—I assume the intention of the TOTK devs for players encountering their first Evermean was for them to just be strolling in the wood and then get jumpscared by a tree, which is all well and good. However, my first Evermean encounter, in which I was just trying to take a picture of a firefly and my camera suddenly locked onto the tree behind it instead with a message reading, “Evermean”, left me standing there in silence with a sense of dread creeping over me at the realization that there were hidden threats all around me that I’d never have noticed before, which I think we can safely say is way scarier.

We've had enough of the English-speaking internet defaulting to USAmerican terms that we are all forced to learn against our will. Here are the new default settings:

  • "Southern" no longer means Texas. It now refers to the Philippine island of Mindanao.
  • "The Midwest" is now Harare, Zimbabwe.
  • The default legal system is now that of the devolved administration of Scotland.
  • "College" is an educational institution for 13 to 18 year olds, as in some parts of New Zealand.
  • The "president" is that of Guyana, currently Irfaan Ali.

If you use these terms to refer to something in the USA then you have to specify or else we won't know what you're talking about and you'll sound like an idiot. Thanks!

Today is Canada day, which is lived differently in Québec. And I'm not talking about nationalism/separatism (which are not bad things, btw, just complicated things), but rather, Moving Day.

It took me a while to learn that this is not done elsewhere, because here, we move July 1st. Not exclusively, but the big majority of leases end and start on that date. That means that you need to leave the apartment by noon because the other family is going to be there at 12h01. I've done it, it's not easy. It's like province-wide musical chairs game.

It's also called Pizza Day because you can imagine how astronomical those profits are on that specific day.

So yeah, we don't really celebrate Canada Day, because of political reasons, because Quebec Day was a week before that and we're still recovering from the hangover, but also because we're just busy moving.

twitter is going to be shut down. half of reddit is locked or completely unmoderated. the entire first page of google search results are ads. tumblr does not and will never have a functioning search system and their content moderation is 100% automated. youtube only shares ad revenue with people who make snuff films for Youtube Kids. facebook is selling your grandma’s social security number under the table for like $5. web 2.0 is completely dead right
